DREAM Act on Thin Ice

MONDAY UPDATE
Today is tax bill Monday.  If the Senate acts on the DREAM Act amnesty, it would not likely occur until Wednesday, December 15, 2010, or later.  It is possible that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) could challenge the Senate to move on the House-passed (H.R. 5281) DREAM Act this week, but only after he navigates through the Bush tax cuts, extending unemployment and funding the federal government.

HOW IT COULD HAPPEN
In order to get to the DREAM Act this week, Sen. Reid will have to maneuver the Bush tax bill through the Senate, and through the House, and get the President to sign it.  First things first.  Next, he will have to find a way fund the federal government and finalize action on the fiscal year 2011 appropriations bills.

If and when he finishes those two tasks, Reid then will have to hold onto enough Democratic Senate votes (57) and add a half-dozen or so Republican votes to invoke cloture (start/stop debate) on the House-passed version of the DREAM Act.  Finally, if he is magician enough to do all of that, he likely will have to navigate through a series of amendments from Sen. Session and Sen. Vitter, etc... aimed to derail the bill and to correct every loophole in the DREAM Act bill.  Reid will need 60 votes for three votes to pass this!

But is there time?  He'll have to do all of this in the 5-to-10 legislative days left before Congress adjourns for the year.  All sources say Reid wants to wrap up by this Friday, December 17, 2010.

Please keep calling and keep emailing and keep faxing!

That's it.  Thin Ice.

  2. Americans wake up. You will only complain after you are taxed more money to pay for the illegal's kids college and university fees.

I want them all drug tested and polygraphed to show they have never graffiti a gang sign anywhere in the USA.

That ought to cut down the numbers considerably!

  3. If our so called leaders had a bit of common sense they would send all the ILLEGAL, AMERICANIZED MEXICANS home to Mexico. The result would be a much better Mexico because the ''AMERICANIZED" Mexicans would start demanding from their own government what they took for granted here in the ever giving USA. MEXICO IS A RICH COUNTRY WITH GOLD, silver,TOURISM,AGRICULTURE,FISHING, MINING, AND more. There is plenty of work for all the Mexicans who are here illegally. SEND THEM ALL HOME...punish those who hire them in our country.

  4. PS. Carlos Slim can better afford to offer scholarships to his fellow Mexicans than the taxpayers in our country.
DON'T KNOW WHO CARLOS SLIM IS? LAST YEAR HE WAS LISTED AS THE RICHEST MAN IN THE WORLD AND HE IS A MEXICAN.

  6. Illegal immigrants have a toll free number 1-866-996-5161 to call Congress about the DREAM Act that will automatically direct them to Senators that represent the state from which they are calling. The illegals are using a toll free number to call the Senate to ask them to vote for the DREAM Act and we can use it to ask them not to. And at the same time we will be blocking their calls. The number to call is 1-866-996-5161. This will be more effective then calling the senator office.

  7. Great News: Senator Scott Brown is an official NO on the DREAM Act!

"I'm not supportive of it," he said. "I think it's a backdoor amnesty and I'm not in favor of it."

  8. I think if the dream act is passed, all americans need to descend on DC and escort all who vote for it out of DC, send them to Mexico and revoke their status as citizens of the United States along with ALL illegal aliens. Immigration is good for the U.S. but MUST be done in the same way it was done 100 years ago. I am also tired of having to dial 1 for english, this is the United States of America, if you want to live here you should be made to learn the language and accept OUR culture...anyone besides me tired of giving up our traditions for fear of offending someone? I say MERRY CHRISTMAS, NOT happy holidays..

  9. The Senate could begin moving on the DREAM Act once work on the tax bill has been completed. The pro-amnesty and open-border coalition is pushing its activists to make 100,000 phone calls to Senate offices this week. Patriots who want to protect U.S. jobs for unemployed Americans MUST phone their two U.S. Senators again today. Please continue to call the Senate at 202-224-3121 and urge a NO on the DREAM Act.

  10. Why should illegal immigrants get tax payer funded college when our own children are not able to attend college because of the cost. Their mothers and fathers defended our country and paid taxes, yet congress feels sorry more for illegal immigrants. Reason, they don't really care. They are paying for votes by using our tax dollars. How about all those illegal immigrants who don't have the smarts or desire to attend college? Our country is falling off the cliff be wise of the cost of illegal immigrants. They need to be sent back and anyone who inappropriately hires them need to lose their business license.
